USING TOUCH AS A HEALING METHOD

The practice of using touch as a healing method derives from customs and techniques rooted in ancient history. Touch is the first sensation that a baby requires and we lose that elemental necessity as we age due to cultural conditioning. Indeed, accidentally touching a stranger elicits an instant apology. The only time when close physical contact is acceptable is in a crowd or between consenting adults, and even then, it may be clouded with all kinds of neuroses about the body.

To be touched and massaged by a trained professional massage therapist restores that felt sense of self, that bodily horizon, which can be lost in a society that promotes mental prowess above body awareness. Stuck in their heads, many people lose a sense of grounding and subsist in a zone of hyper mental stimulation, leading to adrenal nervous exhaustion and a debilitating fatigue. The body is in the mind, and through healing the body the mind can flourish in a relaxed ambient space.

Civilizations in the east and west found that natural healing and massage could heal injuries, relieve pain, and prevent and cure illnesses. In many countries still, like Turkey, Russia and China, there are deeply sophisticated old massage cultures ingrained within the modern matrix. The hammam of old, the spa, or the Roman bathhouse was a place to go to meet friends, catch up on gossip and get a rugged cleansing and then a soothing massage to finish. Invigorated and refreshed, everyone’s mood is better, and social relations are marked by increased civility and relaxed informality.

So, getting a massage can change not just your mood and relax your tired limbs. It can change the way we interact as a society.
Massage helps reduce stress and produces deep relaxation by smoothing the nerves.

The nervous system is responsible for the production of stress, so it’s important that it is functioning within normal parameters. Massage helps set your neurology back to default, as well as kneading deep tightness through the manipulation and resetting of deep fascia, the release of stuck muscle fibroids, and a moulding of the “ground substance” that fills the muscle spaces to gently re-pattern your body into a healthy, vibrant, fully balanced structure.
